TRAIN PROJECT
INTRODUCTION
DEFINE A PROBLEM
TRAIN PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In the train project, we had to make a 3D model of all of the parts of a mini train ( train body, train stack, hitch magnet, hitch peg, axle peg, linkage peg, train wheel, linkage arm, sight track and a cow catcher) on inventor and then assemble all of the parts together so it looks like a train . After that we had to create an idw file of all of the parts using different views ( broken view, section view, detail view and auxiliary view) while fully dimensioning them. Then we had to create an exploded view of the train. And if you wanted to you could of done extra credit by animating your train on the track.
GENERATE CONCEPTS
When I first started modeling and reading dimensions, I was having trouble with figuring out unknown dimensions. But then after I watched a couple of youtube videos and looked at the dimensions more closely, I was able to model all of my train body parts correctly with all of the right dimensions. When I did my assembly, I did not have much trouble creating my train with no degrees of freedom.
DEVELOP A SOLUTION
CONSTRUCT AND TEST PROTOTYPE
EVALUATE THE SOLUTION
I showed some of my friends and family my train and they said that the appearance was really cool, they liked the way the train looks and they liked all of the colors. When I first showed them my train on the track, I only had one track train that the the train was moving on, so when I showed it to them, they thought it was cool, but they thought it needed more tracks and that some of them needed to be curved. So I added 2 more tracks, I could not figure out how to make them curved, but with more tracks it made it cooler.
PRESENT THE SOLUTION
I had many challenges that I faced during this train project. When I first started modeling all of my train parts on inventor, I had trouble figuring out some of the dimensions that were not specified on the sheet. So to figure this out, I watched a couple of you tube videos and got help from my neighbors, after that I was able to model all of my parts correctly. I also learned a lot of assembly and idw skills while doing this project, the train project taught me a lot about inventor. The purpose of a section view is so that you can see the inside of an object that you would not be able to see with any other view. The purpose of an auxiliary view is so that you can see a perpendicular view off of a surface to give you a better view of an object. The purpose of a broken view is to minimize an object and make it so that parts that you don't need don't get shown. Symbols can be better to use than words because it will be easier to read if you know all of the symbols, it also gives you more of a visual explanation of what the hole looks like. We need tolerances to show if dimensions can go higher or lower and to show the min and max amount that a dimension can go.
