Define A Problem
Generate Concepts
In this project, we were to create a random number generator out of LED's, capacitors, IC chips, switches, resistors, and a power source (batteries) that would randomly generate a number between 1 and 6 every time. To do this, we had to put all of these mentioned parts on the circuit board in the correct places and then solder them to the board, and the final result should have been the random number generator.
Evaluate the Solution
Conclusion Questions- I was unable to complete the conclusion questions because the final result of my random number generator did not function and none of my classmates were able to find out what the problem was. I was also unable to complete the testing table because of this same reason.
Reflection- Out of all the projects I have done, this was one of my favorites even though I could not get my random number generator to work. I really enjoyed soldering and learning about the components of a circuit, I also enjoyed the fact that we were in the lab for most of the project. Even though I was kind of slow at first with soldering since it was a new skill, it was still really fun once I got the hang of it. In terms of the difficulty of the project, placing the components in the right places was not very difficult since the directions were very clear and it showed a picture demonstration. The only thing I messed up on was the placement of the battery pack at first because I didn't read the directions before I placed it, which was a mistake. However, I fixed it later on when I realized it was in the wrong position. Overall, soldering was only difficult at first because I just had to practice with it, but once I got the hang of it, it was fairly easy and fun and it toke up a major portion of the project, which made the project more fun. Another thing I struggled with was the IC chips, for some reason it took me a while to fit them into the board because the prongs were too wide, so I had to force them in which was kind of difficult. However, I was eventually able to complete it. Even though I could not get my project to work in the end, it was still really fun to learn about circuits and soldering and it is definitely something I would want to try again in the future.
