Our goal in this project was to create an asynchronous counter that counted from 0-80 when you turned on the switch, but it also had to be able to reset to zero at any time. We then had to build it in PLD mode so that we can then prove it works on our breadboards and that we know how to wire it correctly.

PLD Circuit
PLD mode is different from the original design mode because it has pins that correspond to one large chip. If we had to wire the breadboard using the original design mode we would have to use a lot more wires than in PLD mode, which would be a big mess and it would be hard to troubleshoot if you had any issues with it. In PLD mode, you can just build the circuit on the computer and then all you have to do on the breadboard is wire the pins to the correct places as you built them on the computer in PLD mode. In PLD mode, there are either input or output connectors. Input connectors get assigned to switches or power sources ,or also the clock. Output connectors will be assigned a pin, and from this pin a wire will go to some sort of output on the breadboard.

Conclusion
The main difference between Small Scale Integration and Medium Scale Integration is that SSI uses a maximum of 10 gates while MSI can use more than 10. The circuit we made was an MSI and our only limitations was that we had to make it be able to count to 80 without stopping, had to be able to reset at zero at anytime and it had to count up. Because it is an asynchronous counter, it is known as a ripple counter. It is known as a ripple counter because there is only one clock input, which means that the signal "ripples" through the circuit.. The clock input starts to count from 0-9. Once 10 is detected, (0101) it resets to 0, and the 10's column becomes a one. This counts up every time a 10 is detected . The counter stops at 80 because when an 8 is detected in the 10's column then the wiring causes the clock to stop inputting.. Key A is a reset key that will reset everything to zero once it is activated. I didn't notice much of a difference with my other classmates.
